Winter Wonderland on Mt. Lemmon
We had a big weather system hang around this past week that dumped a ton of snow on our beloved Mt. Lemmon. The mountain has been closed all week and finally opened yesterday afternoon. We live in the desert and the only snow we ever see is on the mountain or in the movies. As soon as there’s a decent amount of snow the entire town attempts to head up the mountain to play. Knowing the mountain was going to be crazy, we headed up early this morning. There weren’t many cars and we were able to casually drive up and stop where ever we wanted. It was heaven. I don’t think I’ve ever seen the mountain that peaceful.
We stopped at Windy Point and were literally the only ones there. If you have ever been to Windy Point you know that’s unheard of.
We continued on up the mountain and were in awe of the beautiful snow-covered scenery.
Once we were at the top we spent some time sledding with friends until our toes said it was time to get back in the car.
And then we made snow angels.
And took another pretty picture.
And then we got in our car, cranked up the heat, and headed back down the mountain. By the time we got to the bottom the mountain was closed due to overcrowding. The line of traffic was literally 3.5 miles long. 3.5 miles of cars waiting to play in the snow. Yikes! I took a rather blurry picture of the line while The Husband was driving.
Mt. Lemmon is a Tucson gem. In the winter it provides a snow-covered playground and in the summer it provides a cool sanctuary to retreat from the summer heat.
